Introduction

Phenolic resin, one of the oldest plastics, has a storied history dating back to 1907 when Dr. Baekeland, an American of Belgian heritage, invented it. He christened this synthetic resin "Bakelite," a name that would go on to become synonymous with early plastics. Building on this foundation, Sankyo Company, now known as Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd., continued to advance the development and application of phenolic resin in the years that followed.
